Description
The purpose of this course is to prepare participants for the PA DEP Wastewater Treatment Exam. Successful completion of this course will help the participant become a certified wastewater treatment operator and also serves as a refresher course for practitioners seeking continuing education credits.

Collection Systems, Part I – a. List and describe three types of collection systems. b. Compare sanitary and combined collection systems. c. Explain the appurtenances associated with wastewater collection systems. Collection Systems, Part II – a. List three types of pumping stations describe how each operates, and explain the ideal conditions needed for each station to operate properly. b. Explain the standards and permitting requirements that apply to pumping stations. c. List and describe the components of pumping stations. Flow Meters – a. Explain why flow is measured. b. List two types of data output. c. Describe four factors that affect flow rates. Chemical Feed Systems – a. Describe the historical use of chemicals in wastewater treatment. b. List six uses of chemicals in wastewater treatment. c. Explain the purpose of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and describe the typical information found on an MSDS.
