Having an engaged workforce is important for an organization to operate effectively and have a strong safety culture. Accordingly, there is a compelling business argument for fostering employee engagement. This starts with employees who have an actively caring and positive attitude. These employees in turn are more likely to develop a caring attitude towards others. Contemporary behavioral research indicates that by teaching your employee practical job skills, frequently soliciting their input and showing them that their input matters significantly increases employee engagement and empowerment. A workplace safety committee has been long recognized as an excellent way to encourage engagement and empower employees. An effective workplace safety committee can help an organization reduce the frequency and severity of injuries and illnesses, foster employee engagement and lead to improved productivity. These committees are visible examples of the employer’s commitment to workplace safety and the well-being of employees.

Under the Health and Safety Regulations of the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act, self-insured employers and insurance carriers licensed to write workers’ compensation insurance are required to either employ or contract with qualified accident and illness prevention services providers to deliver services to policyholders or to provide program services. This course is designed to meet the training requirements for workplace safety committee certification under Pennsylvania Dept. of Labor and Industry’s Workplace Safety Committee Certification Program. This training is presented by in-house Risk Control Department Instructional Staff qualified to deliver the required training to workplace safety committee members.
