Description
Man-made raw water supply reservoir dams built using earth embankments exist throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States and around the globe. Past dam failures have resulted in significant loss of life and property damage. Typical causes of historic dam failures will be reviewed leading to modern dam safety regulations and design standards.
Several current dam safety renovation strategies, alternatives, and design components that were incorporated into this project will be covered.
Typical project challenges such as supply chain disruptions, non-conventional concrete materials, public relations / communications, and the importance of working with a safety and environmental stewardship considerations.
