Description
This course will be part of the curricula for CPI's 1023 hour, ACCSC (Accrediting Commission of Career Schools & Colleges) accredited Water & Wastewater Utility Operator/ Technician diploma program. It will also be part of the 288 hour Related Technical Instruction curricula for PATC (Pennsylvania Apprenticeship & Training Council) registered water operator and wastewater operator apprenticeship programs. Finally, the course will be available to individuals and utility employee groups for relevant training and DEP-approved contact hours.

*Purpose, history, & types of water/ wastewater disinfection & oxidation processes
*Physical and chemical characteristics of chlorine gas, sodium hypochlorite, & calcium hypochlorite
*Chemical reactions when the different forms of chlorine are added to water
*Break-point chlorination; combined & free chlorine residuals
*Relationship between chlorine dose, chlorine demand, & chlorine residual
*Chlorine application, sampling, & measurement equipment & techniques
*Handling, storage, and feed facilities for the different forms of chlorine with emphasison the safety features of these facilities
*Chlorine SDS & PPE
*Chlorine exposure first aid
*Chlorine emergency response
*Chlorine demand, dosage & usage calculations
*Chlorine feeder calibration curve generation & usage
*Disinfection by-products formation & prevention
*CT Times significance & calculations
*Chlorination regulatory requirements & issues
*De-chlorination requirements and methods
Target Audience
The target audience for this class will include:
* water and wastewater apprentice operators enrolled in either the PATC registered water operator apprenticeship program or wastewater operator apprenticeship program. CPI is the sponsor and Related Technical Instruction provider for both of these PATC registered apprenticeship programs.
