Description
This course is an overview of the Greater Hazleton Joint Sewer Authority (GHJSA) Wastewater Treatment Plant. The course gives an overview of the collection system and introduces the learner to the GHJSA Treatment Plant. The main components of the plant's treatment processes, such as preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary are outlined. The course includes the treatment flow and equipment associated with each step in the process. The course also covers side stream processes at the treatment plant, which are processes that don't fit into the natural flow of the training course, and it concludes with a brief summary outlining the salient concepts presented throughout the course.

Course Content
In this course, we will present material about the Greater Hazelton Joint Sewer Authority Wastewater Treatment Plant. As the student progresses through the course, they will learn: *Explain the flow of water throughout the treatment process/ *Understand the Preliminary Treatment process and the equipment used to prevent harmful matter from reaching pumps and other equipment. *Understand the Primary Treatment process where material is settled by gravity, floatable objects are removed, and pollution is reduced to ease the strain on secondary equipment and processes and where BOD and TSS is reduced. *Know the Secondary Treatment process, where impurities are removed using bacterial processes. *Understand the Tertiary Treatment process and where it fits in the flow of water through the plant where nutrient removal occurs using minor BOD and TSS removal. *Learn about other Side Stream Processes that are vital but don't fit into the normal flow of the training course; however are importa
Target Audience
This course is offered to GHJSA wastewater operators and plant administrators.
