Description
This lesson will explain the purpose and fundamentals of gear trains with emphasis on velocity ratio and direction of rotation. There will be explanations of gear trains in which one or more gears have combines rotation. We will also cover the arrangements of gears used in automobile differentials and methods of reversing the motion of machine parts and descriptions are given of ways in which ratchets may be arranged to permit motion in only one direction, or to prevent movement of some parts during a portion of the cycle of operation of the machine.
