Description
This Steel and Concrete surface preparation course will methodically explain the importance of following the surface preparation of steel and concrete cleanliness standards and profile requirements. We will identify and describe the various cleaning and methods up to and including abrasive blasting of the substrates. In addition, this course will review the visual surface comparators for both concrete and steel to establish industry standard results prior to the coating application process.

Course Content
1.Explain the importance of specifications for the surface preparation of steel including cleanliness standards and profile requirements. 2.Identify inaccessible areas and the need to address them in specifications. 3.Describe the SSPC cleaning standards including solvent cleaning, hand and power tool cleaning, abrasive blast cleaning, and waterjetting. 4.Explain the use of SSPC pictorial guides. 5.Describe the basic components and characteristics of concrete and how they affect surface preparation and coating performance. 6.Explain the importance of moisture testing and differentiate the methods available. 7. Describe the different types of concrete. 8.Explain methods of preparing concrete including chemical cleaning, acid etching and abrading. .
Target Audience
Maintenance Managers and Operators, Contractors and design professionals. All Water/Wastewater Professionals responsible for the maintenance of equipment and infrastructure.
