Description
Trenching and excavation work is among the most hazardous tasks in construction and utility operations, with cave-ins accounting for the majority of related fatalities. This course is designed to provide water and wastewater utility personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, evaluate, and control excavation-related hazards in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P. Participants will learn how to properly classify soil, select and implement protective systems, and understand the responsibilities of a Competent Person on the jobsite. The course also addresses hazard identification, emergency planning, and safe work practices around underground utilities and confined spaces. By the end of the training, attendees will be better equipped to prevent injuries, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain safer excavation sites when working on drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
