Description
An operator must understand some basic chemistry in order to control the treatment process and obtain the best results. Chemistry is used by operators to control the pH of water, perform disinfection, remove chlorine, accomplish the settling and removal of solids, and many other actions. This course will help operators gain an understanding of the basics of chemistry.

This course covers the parts of the atom, atomic weight, the periodic table, pH, acids and bases, matter (its states and properties), solutions, and chemical reactions commonly used in water and wastewater treatment.
Target Audience
This course is intended for new operators, operators preparing for the certification exam, and experienced operators who need a refresher in chemistry.
