Course Content
After completing the course, participants will be able to: Describe how to recognize an emergency and gain confidence to act, Explain how to lower the risk for infection when giving care, Describe the emergency action steps: CHECK—CALL—CARE, Explain how to check a responsive person or an injured or ill person who appears to be unresponsive, Demonstrate high-quality CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for a person who is in cardiac arrest, Demonstrate first aid care for a person who is choking, Recognize the signs and symptoms of, and describe appropriate first aid care for, multiple types of sudden illnesses, Describe and demonstrate methods used to control life-threatening bleeding, Recognize the signs and symptoms of, and describe appropriate first aid care for, multiple types of injuries and environmental illnesses, Define and identify common types of bloodborne pathogens and identify practices that help eliminate or reduce risk of exposure.
Target Audience
The intended audience for the courses in this program includes lay responders in the workplace and community. The participants may be taking this training outside the traditional academic environment of a high school, college or university.
