Description
This unit covers a brief history of belt drives and an introduction to suitable applications of belt drives. Relationships between work and power, torque and belt tensions with regard to power transmission and effective putt, and tension ratio and the arc of contact are studied. Also the components that form the internal structure of belts, pulleys, and sheaves will be illustrated and discussed. Flat belts will be discussed as well as the installation practices and procedures.
Part 2 will introduce and explain the unique belt drives that are used in special situation, as well as advantages and disadvantages of each type. New developments in belt drives will also be discussed.
