The Essentials of Cybersecurity Awareness course is designed to equip employees with fundamental knowledge needed to protect American Water’s systems, data, and critical infrastructure from cyber threats. As cyber-attacks continue to grow in frequency and sophistication, employees play a vital role in recognizing and preventing security incidents. This interactive course builds awareness of common attack methods and reinforces secure behaviors across daily work activities, including the use of technology, mobile devices, remote work practices, and emerging tools such as artificial intelligence. The purpose of the course is to ensure employees can identify potential cyber threats, apply safe security practices, and promptly report suspicious activity in support of the company’s enterprise cybersecurity program.

Basic thru Advanced

The 2026 – Cybersecurity Awareness Essentials course provides employees with an interactive overview of cybersecurity risks and their role in protecting company systems, data, and critical infrastructure. The course covers common cyber threats such as phishing, malware, social engineering, insider threats, and targeted attacks, along with physical security and incident reporting. It reinforces best practices for passwords, mobile devices, cloud services, safe browsing, remote work, data security, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the workplace. The course concludes with confirmation of the Acceptable Technology Use Policy to ensure compliance with company security expectations.
